THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) — A 15-year-old male was arrested on Monday in connection to a subway shooting that killed one person and injured five people in the Bronx in February, according to the NYPD.
The 15-year-old was charged with murder, five counts of attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, said police.
The shooting happened at the Mount Eden Avenue station around 4:35 p.m. on February 12, according to the NYPD. The incident started as a fight between two groups of teenagers on a No. 4 train and then continued on the northbound platform, police said.
In total 19 bullets between three alleged gang members were exchanged, police stated.
Obed Beltran-Sanchez, a 35-year-old Mexican immigrant, was shot and killed. Five other victims were also shot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. A 29-year-old woman was struck in the face and neck, officials stated.
A 16-year-old suspect was apprehended at his Bronx apartment on February 15. The teen is allegedly a member of the D-block gang and is expected to be charged with murder, officials said.
Submit tips to police by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), visiting crimestoppers.nypdonline.org, downloading the NYPD Crime Stoppers mobile app, or texting 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577. Spanish-speaking callers are asked to dial 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
