NEW YORK (PIX11) – A Rikers inmate has been indicted for attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a fellow gang member in the back and chest, Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark announced on Tuesday.
The attack caused the victim to receive life-threatening injuries that required open heart surgery, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.
On Dec. 20, 25-year-old Shane Delisle, a member of the Gorilla Stone Bloods, allegedly stabbed a fellow gang member in the same sect, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office. Using a seven-inch plexiglass shard he fashioned into a knife, Delisle allegedly stabbed the victim in the back and the chest, officials said.
“This vicious attack was caught on video which showed the defendant allegedly stabbing the victim multiple times with a piece of plexiglass fashioned into a knife,” Clark said. “Department of Correction Officers swiftly stopped him before the victim was killed.”
Correction officers were able to detain Delisle after using pepper spray, authorities said. Officers also recovered two other plexiglass knives inside Delisle’s cell, according to an investigation.
Delisle is facing charges of attempted murder in the second degree, two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of first-degree promoting prison contraband, and a slew of other charges, officials said.
Delisle and the victim knew each other prior to the incident, officials said.
Delisle is due back in court in May.
