EAST VILLAGE, Manhattan (PIX11) – Shots were fired in Tompkins Square Park on Thursday, and now police are looking to see if it’s connected to a weekend shooting in the park, according to sources.
The shots rang out around 12:08 p.m., police said. No one was hit and none of the shots were fired at or by police, according to authorities.
Police describe the suspect as a man dressed in all black wearing a ski mask. He fled eastbound on East 7th Street on a Citibike, according to authorities.
Two innocent bystanders were shot in the park last Saturday, police said. Two men were fighting with another man who pulled out a gun and fired, striking two others, according to authorities.
A 26-year-old man was shot in the back, while a 53-year-old woman was shot in the hip, police said.
Police are looking at surveillance footage from the weekend shooting to see if it’s connected to the shots being fired Thursday, according to sources.
Submit tips to police by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), visiting crimestoppers.nypdonline.org, downloading the NYPD Crime Stoppers mobile app, or texting 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577. Spanish-speaking callers are asked to dial 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
