BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – A person was shot on an A train near Brooklyn’s Hoyt-Schermerhorn Streets subway station Thursday afternoon, according to the NYPD.
Someone shot another person in the head on the train, sources said. A dispute may have led up to the shooting, according to sources. It’s unclear if the two people involved knew each other prior to the shooting.
The victim was in critical condition after the shooting around 4:45 p.m. Police have one person in custody, according to the NYPD and the FDNY.
Officers found a gun at the scene, according to the NYPD.
Northbound A trains were not running from Broadway Junction to Jay Street, and all A train service was “severely disrupted,” according to New York City Transit.
C train service was suspended Thursday afternoon. G trains were running but skipping Hoyt-Schermerhorn Streets in both directions.
Subway safety has been a key focus of Gov. Kathy Hochul and city authorities after a string of high-profile crimes, including back-to-back shootings on Bronx subways.
This is a developing story. Please refresh this page for updates.
