MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) – A man had $20,000 in cash stolen from him during a cryptocurrency exchange at a Manhattan hotel last Saturday, according to the NYPD.
The 40-year-old man told police his friend set up a meeting for him to exchange the cash for crypto inside the Sonder Battery Park Hotel around 5 p.m. A man met the victim in the lobby and walked with him to room 315, according to authorities.
Once they were at the door, the man shoved the victim into the room where two other men were waiting, police said. The three men punched and tied the victim up with tape around his ankles, wrist and mouth, according to authorities.
That’s when the suspects stole $20,000 in cash from the victim’s bag.
Police describe the suspects as being between 18 to 22 years old and between 5’5″ and 5’7″.
The first suspect was last seen wearing a blue baseball-style cap, black bubble jacket, black pants and black and white sneakers.
The second suspect was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, eyeglasses and black and white sneakers.
The third suspect was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black sunglasses and black and white sneakers.
