NEW YORK (PIX11) – Marijuana enthusiasts will parade down Broadway on Saturday to celebrate the annual NYC Cannabis Parade and Rally.
The parade and rally is one of the longest-running marijuana legalization events in the world, organizers said. It started as a “smoke-in” at Washington Square Park in 1973, according to the parade’s website.
A street fair and after-party will also be held along with the parade and rally. Here’s what you need to know:
The parade will assemble at 11 a.m. on Saturday on the east side of Broadway between 32nd and 33rd streets. Then, paradegoers will take to marching down Broadway at noon.
The parade route is southbound on Broadway from 32nd Street to Union Square Park at 14th Street.
The rally, featuring leaders in the marijuana industry, elected officials and performers like Havoc from Mobb Deep and Raul Midón, will be held in Union Square Park’s South Plaza between 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. A street fair with the parade’s sponsors and drug reform organizations will be set up across from the stage.
The after-party will be held at THC NYC at 427 Broadway from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets must be purchased to attend the party, which will have food, mocktails by HighGarden, music and more.
Tickets cost $20 and can be found here.
Here’s what streets will be closed during the parade, according to the Department of Transportation.
