NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — Trader Joe’s recalled packaged basil linked to a salmonella outbreak across several states, the grocery chain announced.
The product, Infinite Herbs organic basil, was sold in 2.5-ounce clamshell containers from Feb. 1 to April 6 in 29 states including New York and New Jersey, the grocery chain said on Wednesday.
Trader Joe’s is urging consumers who purchased the product to throw it out immediately or return it to any Trader Joe’s for a full refund.
So far, 12 people have been infected from the salmonella outbreak across seven states, according to the CDC. One person has been hospitalized.
Symptoms of salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps, and usually occur 12 hours to 3 days after eating the contaminated food.
