QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) – A suspicious package holding a potentially explosive device was found in Queens Tuesday afternoon, prompting a building evacuation, according to the NYPD.

A blue shoebox showed up at a building on Queens Boulevard just before 12 p.m. The box contained a slew of brown sticks, around 1 inch in diameter, taped together with various colored wires protruding from the object, according to the NYPD.

The NYPD’s Bomb Squad responded to the scene and the object was transported for further investigation, police said. Police later determined the object was inert, according to authorities.

Submit tips to police by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), visiting crimestoppers.nypdonline.org, downloading the NYPD Crime Stoppers mobile app, or texting 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577. Spanish-speaking callers are asked to dial 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
