NEW YORK (PIX11) – Black History Month is kicking off Feb. 1, with this year’s theme being “African Americans and the Arts.”
The Paley Center will be exploring the lives of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X through a new exhibit from National Geographic’s upcoming series, “Genius: MLK/X.” Costumes, props and set pieces are included in the immersive exhibit.
The exhibit’s opening night on Feb. 1 includes a premiere of the series as well as a panel featuring actors from the show.
The Tenement Museum, known for bringing to life the stories of working-class immigrants to New York, will also be celebrating Black History Month by featuring a Black family for the first time.
Its new exhibition “A Union of Hope: 1869” recreates the dwellings of a Black migrant family who lived in SoHo during the post-Civil War era when the district was the center of Black life in New York City.
