FAR ROCKAWAY, Queens (PIX11) – An NYPD officer and a suspect were both shot during an incident in Queens Monday evening, police officials said.
The shooting happened at 19-19 Mott Ave. in Far Rockaway, according to the NYPD. The officer was hospitalized in critical condition and was undergoing surgery, sources said.
Additional information about the incident wasn’t immediately available.
“Due to a police investigation, avoid the area surrounding on Mott Avenue between Central Avenue and Smith Place in Queens. Expect a police presence and residual traffic delays in the surrounding area,” the NYPD shared on social media.
About a dozen NYPD members and EMS personnel milled about on the street as two FDNY ambulances sat idle with their lights on, video from Citizen App shows. Meanwhile, a small crowd of bystanders gathered outside a corner store near the scene.
Fabien Levy, a spokesperson for Mayor Eric Adams, said the mayor has been briefed on the shooting.
“Mayor Adams is enroute to Jamaica Hospital now,” Levy said on X. Adams was scheduled to meet with the officer around 7 p.m.
The mayor’s spokesperson said the NYPD would be holding a press briefing on the shooting, but it’s unclear at this time when it will be held.
