STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) – An employee of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation is accused of having a forged license plate on his vehicle, sources told PIX11 News on Friday.

Ahmahd Daniels, 25, was arrested in Staten Island on Thursday, according to authorities. He was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument, resisting arrest, obstruction of governmental administration, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, having an unregistered vehicle and failure to signal.

Daniels’ car allegedly had temporary plates that were considered forged, sources said.

The arrest comes after a task force was made to combat “ghost cars.” The task force’s primary focus is to identify and remove vehicles with fake or modified license plates, or those with no tags at all.

These vehicles are often unregistered or stolen, officials previously told PIX11 News.

The crackdown comes ahead of congestion pricing, which is expected to take effect in June. Cars entering Manhattan’s Central Business District, south of 60th Street, during peak hours will pay a $15 toll.

License plate readers will be used to issue tolls.

City employees are not exempt from paying the toll.
