BROOKLYN (PIX11) — More than 100 firefighters were called to put out a massive fire in Besonhurt Tuesday afternoon; fire officials said.
Firefighters responded to a 911 call just after 1 p.m., at 2050 71 Street. Upon arrival, firefighters found fire on the first and second floors of the building. Multiple people managed to escape before first responders got to the scene, fire officials stated.
Within minutes of battling the blaze at 1:14 p.m., a second alarm for backup was called to expel the blaze. After 15 minutes, at 1:39 p.m., a third alarm was activated and eventually, the fire spread to an adjoining building, and a fourth alarm was sounded, fire officials stated.
The fire was placed under control at 2:57 p.m. 39 fire units and 175 FDNY members were needed to put out the blaze. Six firefighters were taken to local hospitals and treated for minor injuries, and one firefighter was treated at the scene, Chief of Fires John Esposito.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by FDNY Fire Marshals.
