NEW YORK (PIX11) – An official start date for congestion pricing in Manhattan has been set, the MTA announced on Friday.
Congestion pricing is set to begin on June 30.
Cars entering Manhattan’s Central Business District below 60th Street between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. will be charged a $15 toll once a day. Depending on their size, trucks and buses could be charged anywhere from $24 to $36.
There will also be credits for those entering the Queens-Midtown, Hugh L. Carey, Holland, and Lincoln tunnels.
People making no more than $50,000 a year can get a discount on congestion pricing. Emergency vehicles, school buses, and commuting buses are exempt from congestion pricing, according to the MTA.
Several lawsuits have been filed to try to stop congestion pricing from going into effect. Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella, United Federation of Teachers and the state of New Jersey are all suing the MTA over congestion pricing.
Some lawmakers are also fighting to repeal congestion pricing.
