BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) — A man stabbed a subway rider in the back several times after the two fought about smoking on a Brooklyn train early Monday, police said.
The 52-year-old suspect attacked the victim, also 52, on the J train in the Kosciuszko Street subway Station in Bushwick at around 4:30 a.m., according to the NYPD. The men were arguing about smoking but it was unclear which one was lighting up before the violent encounter.
The victim was stabbed multiple times in the back and taken to the hospital for treatment, police said.
The suspect was apprehended at the train station and charges were pending, authorities said.
Last year, two men were busted for attacking an NYPD officer when the cop told them they couldn’t smoke in a Bronx subway station, prosecutors said.
Izayiah Jessamy, 20, and Karrem McClary, 23, were allegedly smoking and refused to put out the cigarettes in the Freeman Street subway station on Nov. 13, 2023. The men then tried to go through the emergency gate at the station to avoid paying the fare before they were stopped by the officer, according to officials.
Jessamy and McClary then allegedly punched the cop multiple times in the head, officials said.
The duo was indicted on assault and harassment charges, prosecutors said. They are due back in court on June 3.
