CANARSIE, Brooklyn (PIX11) – Police are searching for a black four-door sedan after a 19-year-old man was fatally shot while sitting inside a car in front of his Brooklyn home early Tuesday, according to the NYPD.
The shooting happened around 2:40 a.m. in front of 1112 East 104th St. near Avenue K in Canarsie, police said. The victim, identified by police as Christian Montrose, was sitting on the driver’s side of a red car when he was shot in the mouth and torso, according to authorities.
Montrose was rushed to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Montrose’s cousin told PIX11 News that he had just graduated from high school and was looking to get into the automotive industry as a mechanic.
“A great kid, he liked to work on cars, driving. This is very shocking for me. He went to school. He used to play basketball in front of the house. Surprised that this happened,” he said.
Police have not revealed if Montrose was the intended target and the motive. It’s also unclear how many people were involved.
Submit tips to police by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), visiting crimestoppers.nypdonline.org, downloading the NYPD Crime Stoppers mobile app, or texting 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577. Spanish-speaking callers are asked to dial 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
