BUSHWICK, Brooklyn (PIX11) – A fast-moving fire has displaced at least 55 people and three pets in Brooklyn Thursday morning, according to the Red Cross.
More than 250 firefighters responded to the fire near the 1800 block of Bushwick Avenue on Wednesday, according to the FDNY. The fire swept through four residential buildings and a neighborhood grocery store, fire officials said.
The buildings are all wood-framed, which fueled the fire, according to Deputy Fire Commissioner Joseph Pfeifer.
Anne-Marie Gibson told PIX11 News that her apartment of 24 years is one of the buildings destroyed in the fire. Her loved ones were able to escape unharmed.
The FDNY said six firefighters and a civilian were all treated for minor injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
