CEDAR GROVE, N.J. (PIX11) — A New Jersey pharmacy that has been in business for 29 years is trying to pick up the pieces after a tractor-trailer barreled into their business.
It happened Friday morning at The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy on Pompton Avenue in Cedar Grove. According to Cedar Grove Police, the tractor-trailer lost control when a car heading in the opposite direction down Pompton Avenue crossed the double-yellow line and hit the truck’s front tire.
The truck hit another car head-on before crashing into the pharmacy, rupturing a gas line, and destroying the front of the pharmacy. Police Chief John Kennedy told PIX11 News the driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.
The 67-year-old female driver who struck the truck was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital with a head injury.
The driver of the vehicle hit by the truck, also a 67-year-old woman, was treated at the hospital for chest trauma and a leg fracture. All injuries appear to be non-life threatening.
Two tenants who live above the pharmacy and a soon-to-be renter were displaced.
“We had one tenant that was ready to move in, pick up her keys actually that day,” said Margaret Amireh, whose father Amin owns the pharmacy.
Margaret, an acupuncturist, operates Balanced Body Acupuncture out of the same building. She was working with a patient when the truck crashed through the store.
“I heard a rumbling, a huge crash that came in, and then a roaring,” said Amireh.
The truck hit the register area where her father is usually stationed. He had thankfully moved away mere seconds beforehand.

“All I saw was this big 18-wheeler in the pharmacy,” said Amireh.
The physical blow to the family’s business comes on the heels of a financial one.
“We just got impacted with the big cyber attack with Change Healthcare and we were just recovering from that mess a few weeks ago,” said Amireh. “So, it’s been a stressful couple of months.”
Amireh said she and her father will reopen their respective businesses as soon as possible.
“He loves what he does,” said Amireh. “He’s always thinking about his customers and how he can help them. This is his heart and soul.”
Amireh said they are grateful that no one was seriously injured. The driver of the car that hit the tractor-trailer was issued a traffic summons.
