NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — New Yorkers enrolled in the city’s Fair Fares program can use OMNY to tap-and-go on the city’s subways and trains, the MTA announced on Wednesday.

The pilot program, which is set to run for 90 days, will allow a select group of 50 Fair Fares members to load their discounted fares onto an OMNY card. The agency also rolled out 39 OMNY vending card machines at 25 stations on Monday.

MTA hopes to collect feedback from the participants in the pilot program ahead of rolling it out for the city’s 330,00 Fair Fare members.

The Fair Fares program was created to help low-income residents manage their transportation costs. Members receive a 50% discount on subway and bus fares.

“Targeted affordability is key to not only growing ridership, but ensuring the most loyal transit riders, no pun intended, pay the fair fare,” said NYC Transit President Richard Davey on Wednesday. “Fair Fares has serious potential to be a game-changer, and with OMNY now in the mix the potential to substantially grow the program is highest it has ever been.”
