BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – Three teenagers have been indicted for allegedly killing an innocent bystander and wounding four others in a subway shooting in the Bronx in February, prosecutors said Tuesday.
The shooting took place at the Mount Eden Avenue subway station as a result of a dispute between rival gang members, authorities said.
“Once again we are talking about boys getting their hands on guns and destroying lives,” Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said. “The defendants allegedly fired their weapons during rush hour, on a busy platform, killing a man and seriously hurting four other people. They have also ruined their futures. This carnage must stop, and we all need to step up and make a difference before youths decide to pick up a gun.”
Only one teen suspect has been named, 16-year-old Langel Jones of the Bronx. The other teen suspects, a 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy, also from the Bronx, have not been named due to their ages.
All three teens were allegedly involved in the Feb. 12 shooting, according to court documents. Shots rang out around 4:35 p.m. on a northbound No. 4 train platform.
The shooting started on the subway as it pulled into the Mount Eden Avenue subway station and continued on the platform and street, said one MTA official. In total, three shooters fired 19 shots, police said.
Those bullets killed an undocumented immigrant, 35-year-old Obed Beltran-Sanchez, and wounded four other people, including a 29-year-old woman who was shot in the face and neck, officials said.
The teens were indicted on Tuesday and are facing the following charges:
