At least two people were injured in a Brooklyn shooting with NYPD officers on Monday, according to a police spokesperson.

The shooting happened at the corner of E. 57th Street and Remsen Avenue near Brownsville shortly after 6 p.m., according to the department. Spokesperson Carlos Nieves said officers responded to an alert from the gunfire locator service Shotspotter.

When they arrived, a man began shooting at them, authorities said. The officers returned fire, according to Nieves, hitting him. He was taken to Kings County hospital and is in critical condition, the NYPD said.

A bystander was also hit, according to Nieves. Their injuries are unknown.

Nieves says none of the officers were injured.

Maya Babb told Gothamist she was on a roof nearby filming a video with friend J.J. Morgan when the sound of gunshots interrupted the process.

“You could hear the fire in the background of the video,” Babb said. “We just kept going because we thought it was firecrackers.”

Officers were responding to the scene Monday evening and a helicopter was seen circling the area.

A press conference was scheduled for later Monday evening, according to the NYPD.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
