A series of New York City subway shootings in early 2024 prompted Gov. Kathy Hochul to order National Guard members into busy stations to create a sense of security. Here’s a timeline of shootings in the city’s transit system so far this year.
Jan. 14: Richard Henderson, 45, was fatally shot aboard a Manhattan-bound 3 train after trying to intervene in a dispute over noise. The suspect is still at large.
Feb. 12: An argument between two groups of teenagers aboard a northbound 4 train spiled onto the platform. At least two people opened fire. One person, an innocent bystander, was killed and five others were injured. Police arrested two boys, who were 14 and 16 years old, in connection with the shooting.
Feb. 23: Police said a “3-on-1” fight aboard a southbound D train ended with William Alvarez, 45, being fatally shot. The NYPD arrested three suspects.
March 14: Dajuan Robinson, 36, was shot in the head with his own gun after allegedly instigating a fight. Police said Younece Obuad, 32, managed to wrestle Robinson’s gun away during a fight on an A train at 4:50 p.m.
