THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) — Two Venezuelan men were shot, one fatally, while sitting in a car in front of a Bronx McDonald’s on Monday, police said.
The gunman opened fire while Adrian Mendoza, 24, and Jhombeyker Bisbal, 31, were in a Nissan Rogue parked near the fast food restaurant at East 149th St. and Morris Ave. in Mott Haven at around 4 a.m., according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joeseph Kenny.
Mendoza was shot in the head and body and Bisbal was shot six times, including multiple times in the chest, body, and shoulder, Kenny said. Mendoza died at the hospital and Bismal remained in critical condition.
The shooter arrived at the scene in a Honda Civic shortly after the victims pulled up in front of the eatery and was caught on video walking past the Rogue before doubling back, Kenny said.
“The shooter approaches the driver’s side of the car from the street and begins to shoot in the car and then walks in front of the car and begins to shoot a second victim through the windshield,” Kenny said.
The suspect then ran off and investigators found 12 9 mm shell casings at the scene.
The victims had wire transfer receipts in their pockets and were sending money to Columbia, police said. It was unclear if the victims were part of a migrant robbery crew where phones were taken, cracked, and shipped to Columbia, Kenny said.
There have been no arrests.
