Two people were injured after a shooting in Tompkins Square Park in the East Village on Saturday afternoon, according to the NYPD.

Police said they received a 911 call at around 12:45 p.m. saying that multiple people had been shot at the park.

They arrived to find a 26-year-old man who’d been shot in the buttocks and a 53-year-old woman who'd been shot in the hip.

Both were taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

A police spokesperson said the shooting occurred after two men assaulted a third man. The man being assaulted then drew a gun and fired multiple shots, which struck two bystanders.

Police are still investigating and have not yet made any arrests.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
