Yair Lapid: 'Funds for yeshiva students replaced funds for
special needs children'
MK Yair Lapid (Yesh Atid) on Monday morning slammed the expected increase in stipends for married yeshiva students, claiming that the money was taken from funds to benefit children with special needs. "You used the money of the citizens of Israel - in this case, money which was intended for children with special needs - in order to solve a political problem," Lapid, whose daughter is autistic, said in an interview with Kan Reshet Bet. "This is already not corruption - it's terrible and unethical cold-heartedness. When you transfer these funds, you take them from someone." On Sunday night, it was reported that the Israeli government is advancing a process which will allocate over 100 million NIS more for stipends for married yeshiva students. The announcement followed a clarification that the increase which was passed as part of the budget was not according to previous agreements between the coalition and the heads of the haredi parties. According to the report, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich (Religious Zionism) agreed in principle to the amendment, but is debating whether to make cuts across the board for it. https://www.israelnationalnews.com/news/374268
